Senior Superintendent of Police Don Muhwezi says security agencies cannot confirm the current location of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Speaking on Next Radio’s #NextBigTalk, Muhwezi addressed rising public concern following post-election tensions.
“We can’t tell where Kyagulanyi is, but I don’t think he is badly off. If he were, he would tell people,” he said.
He added:
“I also don’t think he wants people to know where he is. If he wanted, he would tell the media in the clip circulating.”🚨Senior Superintendent of Police Don Muhwezi says security agencies cannot confirm the current location of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine. ENANCE MONDLANE IN THE MORNING: LEADERSHIP ON THE GROUND, SOLIDARITY IN ACTION AND REPORTING GOVERNMENT NEGLECT
ANAMOLA Party President Venancio Mondlane was yesterday in the district of Manhiça, accompanied by the First Lady Francelina Mondlane and her entourage, as part of actions of solidarity and support for the population affected by the floods caused by the heavy rains that have hit the country.
The visit followed up the public commitment made the previous day and translated into an effective presence on the ground, with the most affected communities. One of the first stops was the Baptist Church of Manhiça, which has been welcoming travelers and families whose travels were interrupted due to the road prohibition on February 3rd, made impassable by floods. The initiative aimed to recognize and support the humanitarian role played by the religious institution, which opened its doors to guarantee shelter, dignity and safety to vulnerable people.
The entourage also moved to Secondary School 03 February, currently transformed into a reception center for displaced families. On site, Venancio Mondlane kept direct contact with the victims, listened to reports of total losses and proceeded to deliver food kits, in an effective immediate support action. He also addressed a message to the INGD personnel present, underlining that the protection of human life should be an absolute priority and a shared responsibility.
Still in the district of Manhica, Venancio Mondlane visited the main checkpoint that separates Manhica from the province of Gaza, in the area of February 3rd. The relocation to the site allowed it to be observed that, despite the gravity of the situation, the dominant presence was of police and armed security forces, contrasting with the limited operation of specialized emergency and rescue teams.
The journey culminated in Mauchahumo, one of the critical areas associated with the floods that affect the part of Manhiça- 03 February. On the spot, the population denounced serious practices, including charging around 500 meticals per person for evacuation on boats allegedly allocated by the government and INGD, misappropriation of food and selling water at speculative prices, in the context of extreme need.
In contact with the press, Venancio Mondlane presented data from the National Meteorology Institute that indicated, since September 2024 the likelihood of a calamitous situation occurring between January and March 2026. Despite this, no contingency plan has been developed, nor preventive evacuations have been carried out, deliberately exposing the population at risk.
The ANAMOLA leader further emphasized that, over more than five decades of independence, Mozambique has received more than $5 billion for various purposes, without which these resources have been consistently used in natural disaster prevention and mitigation. For Venancio Mondlane, the situation experienced in Mauchahumo and Manhiça is not only a consequence of the rains, but a direct result of years of state negligence, lack of planning and structural failures in governance.
The visit reinforced ANAMOLA's position that solidarity is not proclaimed at a distance: it is practiced on the ground, with presence, active listening and effective actions, especially in the most difficult moments.
